Minutes of Sub Vet Base Meeting 3 April 2003

1830-1930 Happy Hour

1930 Meeting Called to order

Conducted opening ceremonies:
Pledge of Allegiance, read Sub Vets Creed

Opening Prayer:
Chaplain Pat Rogers

Member introductions:
Each Guest and Member gave Name, Boat Qualified on and other boats served on. Date of first Qualification and any other pertinent facts about their service.

Toll the Boats:
Sunk in March five boats tolled

Committee Reports:
Webmaster Kenn McDermott report read by Cmdr Jack Winn of setting up of Website www.virginiabase.org Motion made and seconded to have base fund cost of website and anyone wishing to contribute to this cost could do so with a donation to base Treasury.

Minutes of last meeting:
Secretary not present. Minutes of March meeting discussed but could not be read.

Treasurers Report:
Base Treasury shows $702.27 with several members not having paid 2003 dues.

Old Business:

  1. NUC and DBF patches will be available at May meeting. Base still needs Ways and Means Committee, Social Committee and Newsletter Editor.
  2. James Crofts volunteered to be Chairman of Ways and Means Committee. Will take over beer sales and get tickets for 50/50. Dates decided on overnight camping party.
  3. Roger Warden and Dave Jonkers have volunteered to use their homes at Lake Gaston, NC this summer for a weekend family get together. Camping areas, beer, food, swimming, boating, water skiing and other activates will be available to all our members and their families. Date decided on will be 2 and 3 August.
  4. Send $25 to USSVI for sponsorship of USS Virginia Submarine Ball in Norfolk, 12 April 03.

New Business:

  1. Base needs bell to toll boats. Jim Croft will try to find something suitable.
  2. Discussed possibilities of changing times, days and location of regular monthly meetings. All members present indicated that they would like to keep meetings the same.
  3. New Eastern Region Patch will be available.
  4. Casey White, COB on USS Virginia called Jack Winn and said he was sending us some things that were available to us through the boats ship store. Hats, Coffee Cups, Patches, memorabilia, as well as other items. He will send down some samples and some prices. He said the Virginia will be launched Jun 03 in Groton, CT. After fitting out will transit to Norfolk for Commissioning sometime in Jun/Jul 04.
  5. Jim Wilson will contact all members to try and increase attendance.
  6. Beer will be available at meeting free. Donations of $1.00 will be accepted to cover costs.

Good of the Order:

Snacks to be provided by members each month on voluntary basis. Anything that goes with beer.
