Minutes of Sub Vet Base Meeting 06 February 2003

1830 - 1930 Happy Hour Refreshments provide by Bonnilyn Winn and Pat Rogers.

1930     Meeting Called to order Following members present:
            Jack Winn
            Rob McNamara
            James Crofts
            Dave Jonkers
            Roger Warden
            James Wilson
            Frank Kenyon
            Pat Rogers
            Bill Wellner

Conducted opening ceremonies: Pledge of Allegiance, read Sub Vets Creed

Opening Prayer Chaplain Pat Rogers

Member introductions: Each member gave Name, Boat Qualified on and other boats served on. Date of first Qualification and any other pertinent facts about their service.

Toll the Boats sunk in February: six boats tolled

Read Minutes of January meeting, approved as read

Committee Reports:
Vice Commander Roger Warden:
        Reported base patches almost ready.
        Reported on web site for base. Will contact Kenn McDermott to set up temporary web site for our base.
        Brought bell from Fire Station to toll boats. Hopes to get it each month until base can afford one of their own.

Store Keeper Frank Kenyon:
        Will order items from USSVI Storekeeper for members to look at.
        Any items that members might want they can order through our Storekeeper.
        Also, when base patches are ready you can purchase them through our SK

Old Business:
Cmdr Jack Winn reports that at least three more committees need filling.
        Ways and Means, Newsletter editor and Social Chairman.
The following positions have been filled:
        Membership Chairman: John Williams
        Storekeeper Frank Kenyon
        Chief of the Boat Dave Jonkers
        Chaplain Patrick Rogers

New Business:
Due to job related problems with traveling our Secretary/Treasure John Ortis is forced to resign as Secretary. He will continue as Treasurer. Bill Wellner has agreed to take John's place starting in March. Nominated, seconded and approved

New Eastern Region Patch will be available.

Casey White, COB on USS Virginia, called Jack Winn and said he was sending us some things that were available to us through the boats ship store. Hats, Coffee Cups, Patches, memorabilia, as well as other items. He will send down some samples and some prices. He said the Virginia will be launched Jun 03 in Groton, CT. After fitting out will transit to Norfolk for Commissioning sometime in Jun/Jul 04. Discussed opening our homes to transiting Submariners. Jack Winn Bill Wellner and Frank Kenyon volunteered their homes.

New Business:
Beer will be available at meeting free. Donations of $1.00 will be accepted to cover costs.
Pat Rogers reports that Cross of Gallantry for service in Viet Nam now available. Also a commemorative medal is available.
Roger Warden and Dave Jonkers have volunteered to use their homes at Lake Gaston, NC this summer for a weekend family get together. Camping areas, beer, food, swimming, boating, water skiing and other activates will be available to all our members and their families. More will be planned as to dates, etc.

Good of the Order:
Please bring your wife and a covered dish to the next meeting. If you can only come to one meeting this year make it the one in March. SubLant Force Master Chief Don Kultti will give a slide presentation on Submarines and some of the new technologies. Lets give him a 100% turnout. The meeting will start with a Welcome aboard Dinner and Happy hour from 1900 to 2000. We will have a very abbreviated meeting and then MMCM(SS) Kultti's presentation. Q&A will follow.
