Minutes of March meeting Approved as read
Treasurer's Report:
Reported Base had $652.27 as of 3 March 03 bank statement.
Gave check for $250.00 to Kenn McDermott for setting up Website.
Committee Reports:
Storekeeper Frank Kenyon gave brief rundown on ordering items from National
Store and contacting USS Virginia on ordering from their store. Showed belt
buckle with Dolphin Belt Buckle now available.
Vice Commander Roger Warden reports that Base Patch still in the works.
Membership Chairman John Williams introduced new member, Keith Link. Keith's
father was a WWII sub vet. Gave box full of pictures of fathers old boats and
other submarine memorabilia to Historian Roger Warden. Also has collection of
Submarine Books. Will give to George Tyler to inventory and George will start a
lending library of Submarine Books. Anyone having Submarine Books, give to
George to add to library.
Webmaster Kenn McDermott gave report on condition of Web. Had a problem with the
hosting service and had to 'rebuild' the site. Kenn will make the necessary
changes to restore everything to the prior condition. Kenn asked for members to
submit anything that would be pertinent to web. Roger Warden suggested putting
all members and their boats on web with a brief history of members boats. Will
contact Kenn to set this up.
Ways and Means committee chairman Jim Crofts gave report on slush fund for beer
sales and sold 50/50 tickets. Collected $16. Pot won by Keith Link who donated
his half back to base. Jim will look into Food Lion MVP program to raise funds
for base.
Old Business Showed Nuke and DBF patches to members Division patch approved
but not yet available.
Reported on Submarine Ball. Jack Winn, Frank Kenyon and their wives attended.
Sat at table with wives of USS Boise crew. (Click here to read full article in

New Business:
Thurman Register gave report on bricks for lighthouse on Thames River being
restored by money raise by selling bricks for walk. Each brick will bear the
name of a boat lost in WWII. Motion made and seconded to buy a brick for the USS
Grampus. Passed by voice vote. Thurman will send in the petition asking for
government funding to help with restoration of the lighthouse. Roger Warden will
buy two bricks for the USS Seawolf and the USS Grampus and the Base will
reimburse him.
Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia has contacted Jack Winn for donations to
treat lawn for cutworms. State has cut funds for the cemetery and all veterans
organizations are asked to contribute. Also volunteers needed to man cemetery
when secretary Cindy Van Bibber is elsewhere.
Need to set up committee to make up constitution and bylaws for base. Need to
submit to District Cmdr by July. Kenn McDermott volunteered to take this on.
Jack Winn gave Kenn bases copy of National constitution and bylaws.
Good of the Order:
Request members bring snacks for happy hour. Remember Aug 2 & 3rd for beer party
at COB Dave Jonker's summer home on Lake Gaston. Bring camping gear. Dave will
provide turkeys. Bring food for at least two lunches one breakfast one dinner.
