This page will remain active all year for reference since Bill & Carol have graciously sponsored an annual picnic for the Base every year beginning in 2004 and we're hoping they will continue the tradition. Updates to the basic info below will be posted each year after a date has been selected for the next picnic.

Thanks Bill & Carol...!!!

THE 2011 ANNUAL SUB VET PICNIC IS SET FOR  SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST

Please set aside Saturday, October 1st, 2011 on your calendars now and make a commitment for this family event - which is our EIGHTH annual picnic!

Most of us begin arriving around 11:00am and we submerge the boat just before we're ready to begin eating and then after the Base Commander welcomes everyone we conduct our normal opening ceremonies with the COB reading the Submariner's Creed, then leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and, assisted by our Senior Vice Commander, tolling the boats lost during the month of October. The Base Commander will finish by offering an invocation & blessing of the food and then we eat. The pig is usually ready at least by 1:00pm - but that time may vary depending on how our cook, 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagle" Vet Bill Kay is doing on his barbeque cooker.
We're hoping this date will work out for the majority of us.

The most important thing you have to know about these picnics is that we want all members and their families and guests to show up - and you are also encouraged to bring a covered dish or dessert and/or your favorite drink. Bill supplies the basics, and the Base reimburses Bill for the pig and whatever else he would like us to help with - and there is plenty of room for kids, parking, horseshoes, fishing, etc. (and maybe the potato cannon again?) - plus some games the SubVette ladies will be introducing.

Should anyone need additional info on these picnics, or if the directions below don't make sense, call Bill at work (804) 897-2458 or home (804) 561-6997. Look for the Submarine signs at Route 360 and Route 153 directing you to his home.

Bill's address works in GPS units for those who have them (6530 Bridgeforth Lane, Amelia, VA) - otherwise scroll down to view several different maps and driving directions from several different starting points. The MapQuest maps show Bill & Carol's house with a red star. If you want to print these maps just place your cursor over the image, right-click your mouse and select "Print picture ..."
